Welcome to the ICA, fellow villagers. For many of us, the world seems upside down on lots of levels. The cost of living continues to rise with no end in sight. National and international politics is ugly. No one in government appears capable of solving the real challenges of the day. And change is coming at us at a rapid pace. But what if we told you we have a sure-fire way to address those issues in our own little town? What if you had the power to protect and enhance your quality of life and it didn’t cost you a dime? Would you use it? You do hold that power. You can use it any time you like. We’re here to show you how. How did we get here? Since Islamorada incorporated in the late 1990s, there has been a haphazard approach to conducting the actual business of the Village. Couple that laissez-faire attitude with a few feckless politicians, a few self-serving politicians, and a few unethical Village employees – pillagers, if you will – and it becomes easy to see how we’ve fallen so far off the tracks. The results have been profound and costly. In political philosophy, the consent of the governed outlines the idea that a government’s legitimacy and moral right to use power is justified and lawful only when consented to by the people over which that political power is exercised. For this inspired agreement to work, though, trust is essential. For far too many of us who call Islamorada home, that trust has been eviscerated. It became time to do something about it, so we’ve rolled up our sleeves and got busy. We work to earn and keep your trust. We provide Islamorada residents and taxpayers with timely information about policies from Village Hall that impact our quality of life and our wallets, influence land development and traffic, insisting on lawful, fair, and transparent governance. Our work and this site are intended to educate and advocate for the residents of Islamorada. Please take the time to read about the issues that are important to you on this site. The data was obtained through extensive research and public records requests. These analyses are supported with additional documentation for your review. Although we all have a slightly different take on many of the issues facing our community, it is our intention to provide you with comprehensive, factual data so you can better understand what is happening in our community, help protect our Village and participate in guiding it into the future. With a unified voice, we can make that happen. Our structure. The Islamorada Community Alliance is a volunteer organization founded and run by residents of Islamorada. We are chartered under the IRS section 501(c)(3) - pending, as a not for-profit, tax-exempt organization. Donations made to the ICA are tax deductible. |
