THE HISTORY OF THE UFO HOUSE
The UFO House in Venetian Shores It’s tough being different. Just ask a Polish immigrant with surname Ruzakowski who had innovative ideas. He wanted to have a seaplane by the water, so he procured a zoning designation in the Florida Keys allowing that use, and commissioned a Miami architect to design a cool home to go with it. Read David Goodhue’s story, "UFO house in Florida Keys has been demolished," here. The Venetian Shores home alongside Snake Creek built in 1978 was round and had a swimming pool in the center. Some called it the UFO house because it looked like a spaceship with windows surveying a marine landscape. Architect Peter Vander Klout designed the 1,171-square-foot home in Islamorada to withstand a category five hurricane and, indeed, it withstood the tests of Mother Nature. But, vandals and graffiti artists determined they could trespass and take liberties with the home and that destruction led to it being torn down in October 2017. Those who remember the UFO house witnessed originality and function. The property last was sold in 2012 for $950,000 and was valued at around $1.1 million by 2017, according to this website. There’s one in the Indian Waterway neighborhood in Islamorada as well. | Source: www.abandonedfl.com in 2016 Islamorada UFO House | Photo © 2016 Bullet, www.abandonedfl.com |
