Holy (fill in the blank), that’s one enormous reptile! Burmese pythons are invasive exotics – they pose an existential threat to Florida’s native animal species, including gators, so this is welcome news.
Our property values have skyrocketed, again. That’s good news for some, but another sign of how unaffordable Islamorada has become for workers and their families. Getting our arms around this growing threat to our local economy MUST become a top priority for the Village Council.
For centuries, people have viewed swamps and wetlands as obstacles to avoid. But for photographer Mac Stone, who documents the stories of wildlife in Florida’s Everglades, the swamp isn’t a hindrance — it’s a national treasure.
The award ceremony takes place in New York City this October, but Capt. Paul Dixon and angler Andy Mill will be enshrined in BTT’s Circle of Honor, housed in the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center in Islamorada.
Islamorada resident, John Kocol, shares his observations about the lobbying firm being paid to look out for the taxpayers’ best interests in Tallahassee. “Fishing guide associations deserve the credit for pressing for the veto, not our lobbyists. And our elected state representatives, Mooney and Rodriguez, need to rethink their commitment to their local constituents and environmental preservation.”
