Hey Village Hall, Don’t UN-Zoom the Taxpayers!

If there was any good that came from a global pandemic, it was tech geniuses figuring out how we could stay better connected, with government following suit.

Very quickly we all became Zoom experts and have been participating in ways we couldn’t have imagined before. That’s a good thing and it needs to continue.

And that includes all Council meetings!

We’ve heard a troubling rumor that Village staff is suggesting the Zoom capabilities for participating at Village Council be ended.

We cannot imagine why that would be. It’s free, doesn’t cost the taxpayers a dime, but it allows people who don’t have time to get to the meeting to be heard.

Please contact Ted Yates, the Village Manager, to let him know you want the ability to be heard on all channels possible, including by Zoom.

Ted’s phone number at Village Hall is (305) 664-6400. Remind him that open government is critical to an informed public, and an informed public is critical to democracy.

In 1765, John Adams wrote, “Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right and a desire to know.”
